Landover, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Alec Ogletree and Greg Robinson were in the St. Louis Rams starting lineup. Robert Griffin III was still on the Washington Redskins bench, at least for the first 58 minutes. Shaun Hill tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jared Cook and the Rams blanked the Redskins 24-0 on Sunday afternoon to record their second straight shutout win. After Tavon Austins 78-yard punt return staked the Rams to a 24-0 advantage late in the third quarter, chants of RGIII, RGIII, RGIII, reverberated throughout FedEx Field. Griffin, though, never got the call until two minutes remained after Colt McCoy departed with a neck strain. Brockers, Jenkins, Ogletree and Robinson were among the slew of players the Rams received from their 2012 blockbuster trade with Washington, along with Stedman Bailey, Zac Stacy, Isaiah Pead and Rokevious Watkins. St. Louis sent its 2012 second overall pick to the Redskins in exchange for three first round picks and a second-round selection. Washington had the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Redskins made the gamble in the hopes that it would solve their franchise quarterback woes. It reaped early benefits as Griffin won the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and led Washington to a 10-6 mark and an NFC East crown. But the Baylor product has suffered a pair of knee injuries since, including a torn ACL in Washingtons 2012 Wild Card playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and has struggled to adapt his game the last two seasons. Griffin suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 2 of this season and returned in Week 9 at Minnesota, but was benched after a trio of poor performances in favor of McCoy, who was 20-of-32 for 199 yards with two interceptions Sunday. Hill was 16-of-22 for 213 yards, while Cook hauled in four passes for 61 yards for St. Louis (6-7), which posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1945. The Rams blanked Oakland 52-0 last Sunday. Pretty impressive, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said of the shutouts. I look at this as we can play better. The defense recorded seven sacks, two interceptions and eight tackles for loss in the triumph. Pierre Garcon tallied nine receptions for 95 yards for the Redskins (3-10), who have dropped five games in a row. These guys are trying, we just got outcoached and outplayed today, Washington coach Jay Gruden said. Rams safety Rodney McLeod intercepted McCoy over the middle on Washingtons opening drive and St. Louis held the ball for 7:20 on its first touch, but came away with no points. The Rams drove the ball to the Washington 22, but an illegal use of hands and offensive pass interference penalty on consecutive plays pushed the ball back to the 42 and St. Louis wound up punting. St. Louis found the end zone on its second drive when Cook hauled in a 35-yard TD pass early in the second. Greg Zuerlein missed the extra point and then pushed a 28-yard field goal to the right on the Rams next trek. Zuerlein also missed a 38-yard try on the final play of the half. Zuerlein finally split the uprights on a 34-yarder to cap the Rams 13-play, 61-yard march to begin the third, making it 9-0. Baileys 36-yard catch-and-run to the 1 converted a 3rd-and-12 on the Rams next touch and Hill flipped a 1-yard TD pass to Cook on the very next play. St. Louis then added two more points when Johnny Hekker tossed a two-point conversion to Cory Harkey on a fake field goal, extending the margin to 17-0. Game Notes These two teams played in Week 2 of the 2012 campaign after the trade that April, with the Rams limiting Griffin to 206 yards passing in a 31-28 victory ... Tre Mason carried the ball 20 times for 66 yards for the Rams ... St. Louis outgained Washington 329-206. Anor had not scored since getting his first two goals of the season vs. Philadelphia on March 22 but struck with laser precision from distance in the 56th and 75th minutes. Montreal (3-10-5) lost its third straight and Impact coach Frank Klopas said it literally was a case of his players not stepping up.SEATTLE - The Seattle Seahawks had a 24-3 lead over winless Oakland at halftime. The injury-ravaged defending Super Bowl champions ended up barely holding on.This week, came out, played three quarters and then the fourth quarter we took our foot off the pedal or whatnot, Seattle defensive end Cliff Avril said. We just have to be consistent and be able to put a full game together.Seattle escaped with a 30-24 victory Sunday, leaning heavily on Marshawn Lynch and a stingy defence that gave rookie quarterback Derek Carr headaches. Russell Wilson struggled through one of his worst passing games, going 17 of 35 for 179 yards. The Seahawks (5-3) wont look back on this victory with any reverence, other than the ability to grind out their second straight win.Lynch had two first-half touchdown runs and his day would have been much bigger if not for penalties calling back some significant gains. Lynch finished with 143 total yards rushing and receiving and had 26 touches. Its a team game. We played as a team, Lynch said.Oakland (0-8) lost its 14th straight game dating to last season. The Raiders have been competitive, but continue to make critical mistakes they cant overcome. This time it was three first-half turnovers, including Carrs two interceptions.Im just trying to do too much, Carr said. I just needed to settle down. I came in at the half and said Man, I just need to play football. Im here for a reason and I just need to settle down and do my job. Here are other things learned from Seattles victory:IRVINS IMPACT: The past two weeks has shown the potential of Bruce Irvin and why the Seahawks can often live with some of his mistakes.Last week against Carolina, Irvin had two key sacks on Carolinas final possession that displayed his pure pass rush ability. Sunday his pure athleticism was on display. Irvins interception showed everything Carroll has admired about Irvin since he was recruiting him at Southern California. Irvin dropped into coverage and jumped to deflect Carrs pass into the air. He came down and located the ball, grabbing the interception, then used his speed to beat Carr to the pylon for the first touchdown of his career.Tried to be opportunistic and try to make a play when I can.dddddddddddd. I was just fortunate enough that it bounced straight up and came back down, Irvin said.THIRD PHASE: Oakland was able to get back in it in the second half because of its special teams. Denico Autry blocked Jon Ryans punt on the first possession and Brice Butler recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. It was the first blocked punt for a touchdown against Seattle since 2003 and the second for Oakland in the past two seasons.T.J. Carrie made up for a first-half kickoff return fumble with a 27-yard punt return to set up Carrs first touchdown toss to Rivera late in the third quarter. We needed something to be able to turn the tide a little bit, coach Tony Sparano said.LINE DANCE: Seattles injuries continued to pile up and led to more shuffling especially on the offensive line. Patrick Lewis started at centre because of injuries to Max Unger and Stephen Schilling. Russell Okung was inactive, leaving Alvin Bailey to make his first start at left tackle. Left guard James Carpenter went down in the second half with an ankle injury and was replaced by Garry Gilliam — a tackle. The shuffling up front certainly didnt help Seattles struggling pass game although Carroll didnt want to use that as an excuse for Wilson. He wasnt concerned about that going in and didnt feel it during the game either, Carroll said.SHERMS TURN: Seattles Richard Sherman was patiently waiting for a ball to come his direction that he could make a play on and finally get his first interception of the season.Carr was willing to oblige, attempting a back-shoulder throw for Andre Holmes. Sherman had better position and was able to pull the ball in with his left hand. It was his first interception since Week 16 of last season and was welcomed after going through games earlier this season where he wasnt even thrown at.Just waiting. There hasnt been a year yet I havent got one, Sherman said. I knew eventually; if youre out there long enough and youre in position and youre playing the game the way you are supposed to, the football Gods will get what you need.___AP NFL websites: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
